Rick Delaney

Throughout his 33 years in service, Rick Delaney has been involved in several programs at STEPs on Arthur. In fact, at one time he was one of the key players in our Production Assembly Shop, cutting survey stakes, splitting kindling and ensuring a steady supply of product inventory for Kohltech Windows. When we gave up this program in 2015, Rick was welcomed into the Maintenance/Cleaning Crew. This means that during the winter months he might be outside shoveling, salting and sanding and then comes inside to clean up the mess from the salt and the sand that he just put down in the parking lot! In the summer, he enjoys mowing the grass, but he doesn’t appear to be quite as fond of weeding the flower beds for some reason. These skills have served Rick well, and he now holds a part time cleaning position with Asante Logistics. This was a welcomed opportunity for Rick, as he had lost his previous position in 2020, when Covid forced his employer to close its doors.

While Rick is starting to think about retirement, he doesn’t appear to be quite ready to go home to put his feet up quite yet. In fact, he was one of the first to say that he wanted to return when Covid restrictions eased. Now this may be because he likes to be busy, but it might also be because he likes the social aspect of attending at STEPs and being back out in community. He appears to know someone everywhere he goes and when they meet, Rick is quick to catch up on their news and share a little of his own. That is not to say that Rick can’t keep a secret, because he can. If you are someone he admires and respects, Rick remains loyal for a lifetime and would never jeopardize the relationship by speaking out of turn. That is just one of the many admirable qualities that Rick brings to STEPs on Arthur each day. Thank you Rick
